New Beginnings

Hello everyone,

Welcome back if you used to browse these pages in the past, and welcome anew if it's your first time here. I thought it would be worth laying out exactly what this website is, and what my plans are for it going forward.

I have kept a blog for a long time now – probably more than half my life – but for a number of reasons I let the hosting lapse back in early 2023. Firstly, I’d just had a baby, which meant I had no time to work on cars, and that was mostly what the blog was about. I couldn’t create new content, so I questioned the worth of it. Secondly, I had been writing a fantasy book for about ten months and was really enjoying the process. I didn’t know if that content would/could go alongside the engineering/car related stuff. And thirdly, it was costing me money I didn’t have. The rise in the cost of living is no joke, and every penny counts.

But, I have brought it back, albeit in a slightly different guise. This is partly to keep the old fire burning (I have a ton of articles I am very proud of and would like to keep on the ‘net), and partly to spread the news about my new endeavors. Can Engineering and Fantasy Writing coexist? Well, they have in my mind for years, so why not?

If you are reading this, then you probably fit into one of the following catagories:

You're a reader of my old blog who has returned after the hiatus

If that's the case, well then, thank you! It's great to have you back. Whilst I still find time to play with cars, most of my time goes into parenting and writing these days. I will be re-uploading old articles for you to enjoy however, along with some additional commentary now that time has passed. You will find this content in the Engineering section. Any new work on the-little-red-car will of course get documented and uploaded. There are already bits and pieces in the works.

You're a new reader who is here because of FurKnight

Success, I've got you here! But beware, this isn’t your average author website. Yes, I will be plugging future books, as well as giving additional insight into how they are written (you will find everything book related in the Author section), but you know what? I also make other stuff, too. In my spare time, when I am not writing, I like designing, fabricating, and programming. Maybe we share the same interests? It all helps to keep the brain churning.

You're an entirely new reader who has no idea what this is all about

It’s not as confusing as it looks, I assure you! My objective when designing this website was to make it as dead-simple as possible. There is an Author section, which includes articles all about writing, and there is an Engineering section, which includes articles all about (you guessed it) engineering. Be it fabrication, cars, maths, science, programming; the whole lot. The left and righthand sides of my mind have combined, and I hope you enjoy the mash-up.

And that’s about it. I will try to upload as often as I can, but only if I have something to say. Old content will trickle up here as well, probably in the order of ‘articles I liked the most first’, but I will email you when they arrive. The objective is to keep this page as lean and old-school as possible. It’s a sort-of-blog, but in the style of how they used to be.

If you are interested in what I write, then why not stick around? Feel free to subscribe to my mailing list. I will be sending out updates when I post new content, from an address you can reply back to.

Cheers, as always,

Josh
